Artist Statement

My paintings grow from a lifelong connection to the natural world. I grew up in the countryside of Northern California, lived in Puerto Rico for ten years, and spent another 10 years in Southern California. Later, I resided thirty years in the countryside of Oregon and today divide my time between Middle Tennessee and the southern side of Puerto Rico.

Each of these places has deepened my appreciation for the distinctive landscapes, light, colors, flora, and wildlife that surround us.

As an art major in college, I fell in love with acrylic paint for its clean color and quick drying time. I work primarily with large brushes and, more recently, have enjoyed experimenting with stencils and layered techniques. Through abstract realism, I try to capture the essence of my subjects rather than simply reproduce what I see. Animals are a particular source of inspiration and often provide the spark for a new painting. Yet every day in the studio is an adventure, whether I am creating a landscape, exploring a close-up view of nature or painting an animal.

I want my work to reflect the light, color, contrast, spirituality, and occasional touch of humor that I find in nature. Above all, I hope my paintings invite viewers to pause and share in some of the

wonder I experience in the natural world.
